I am a fan of open source resources and they really made me satisfied in one or another aspects. As freelancer translator, I am more addicted to CAT Tools such as OmegaT for doing translation. Now its new released version 2.6.x with Team Project feature is exactly what I am looking for years.
Although there are not so many guides about how to use "Team Project Feature" in OmegaT, I really dug out some useful information to make it real. The Team Project feature in OmegaT makes it possible for multiple translators to work on the same translation project, over the internet (or over a private network), using a synchronised project memory and a synchronised project glossary.
The most important element of any team work projects is the leader who control everything and make them move smoothy. In this case, the leader need to know a little bit about subversion (SVN) and Google Hosting. Luckily, team members don't need to learn anything except how to use OmegaT basically.
Now just follow these steps to achieve:
TEAM LEADER
Step 1: Sign in to your Google Account and start to create a new project and invite members. Remember to check subversion button.
Step 2: Before you start to do this step, download and install TortoiseSVN or any SVN client program. Then open your OmegaT and create a new project in any folder to make sure that it contains all the project's files (such as omegat, glossary, tm, dictionaries, source, target...). For example, folder itbox4vn.com in my machine. Conduct to SVN Checkout your folder.
Fill out repository URL and check out directory in local
Step 3: SVN Commit to upload your files to Google server
Check all the files
Fill out the username and password that you get from Source tab in your Google Hosting Project.
Finished to upload
TEAM MEMBERS
Open OmegaT and choose "
Download Team Project"
Copy and paste repository URL and choose local folder to store your files. Remember that you just do it ONCE. If authentication is required, enter your username and password.
From now, you start to translate your part as usual. As you can see, they are two panel from different users who work together in one project. Whenever you type in OmegaT, it will appear in the others when synchronizing.
Have fun!
